Why do gay couples fight for the right to marry?

Why do gay couples fight for the right to marry while many straight couples don't ever want to get married? Got any thoughts on this subject or personal experience? Why do gay couples fight for the right to marry?
Their fight is against inequality rather than for marriage per se. Sure, there are financial and legal aspects to being married (both pros and cons), but if marriage was widely discarded I can't imagine homosexuals wanting to keep it any more than heterosexuals. Next-of-kin is one of the common complaints, you don't want to spend 20 years with a person only to have them die and then find you have *no rights* to even determine whether they'll be buried or cremated, let alone whether their organs can be used to save other lives, how their estate is disposed of, etc. etc.Why do gay couples fight for the right to marry?
Here's one for you. If gay men like other men, then why are gay men attracted to feminine men? Logically, you'd think that if you were attracted to other men, then you'd like manly men, not feminine or girly men. The same goes for lesbians. If they like women, then why do so many of them look manly? Points to ponder.
This is a very political issue. If gay marriage is recognized as legal, the world of health care and retirement benefits changes. Employers will be forced to extend health insurance to a gay spouse and perhaps the children of a gay spouse. In the event of pension plan, should the gay spouse survive any pension benefit would continue until the surviving gay spouse passes. It really is all about the money!
Being married carried certain benefits with it, like health insurance, tax credits, whatever. Hey, maybe they just want to suffer like everyone else.
Any one should be able to marry, and they fight for that right because they want to get married...Honestly, some ';straight'; ppl dont want to get married. but a lot of us do....And believe it or not alot of ';gay'; ppl are actually into their church and family, even if you might say, its against the bible in the first place...ITs their right...
To share in the countless rights married couples have over gay couples!
the question should be why do gay couples have to fight for this right. I never thought about it until my 11 year old asked me if she could send a letter to president bush., b/c she thinks it's wrong that two people regardless of gender can't legally acknowledge their love for each. She then asked me how would you feel if you and daddy weren't allowed to get married.

Crazy, we live in a world of violence and yet our government is more focused on controling acts of love.
What in heck does one have to do with the other?

Anyone in love should have a full right ot be married should they choose to be.
