Because people don't die at the same rate that they are born. Or, if they do, it's a larger population that has to die off. Look at the numbers.
Let's say one city has a thousand grandparents and a thousand parents; that's a population of 2000. Over the next ten years, the parents get married; that's 500 couples who give birth to 500 babies. Even if every birth was matched with a death, the new population after ten years would still be 2000 (half of the original grandparents 500, plus all the original parents, 1000, plus the 500 new babies: 500 + 1000 + 500 = 2000).
In another ten years, once all the original grandparents die; then you'll start to see a decline: the 1000 parents plus 500 now-adult children.
Once all those adult children get married and have babies over the next decade, and half the parents-now-grandparents die, you'll have 500 parents-now-grandparents plus 250 children-now-parents plus 250 babies = 1000.
So it would take at least 30 years for the population to cut in half, assuming no immigration or emigration or movement between cities. If couples in China are only allowed 1 child, why isnt there population halving?
first to halve, it will take a genaration or two, beacause the ppl that live now are from the genarations that were allowed more than one child, so these generations will have to die, in 50-60 years or so and then the population will begin to halve
and second they can have more than one child, simply have to pay more taxes for each child after the first, but if you have nothing they can't take away nothing from you with taxes, so the poor ppl continue to have more than one child. If couples in China are only allowed 1 child, why isnt there population halving?
too many ppl there already!
Because other people, from other nations, move in?
the old ones - they aren't dying yet?
I don't know, why?
